Halvergate pulled off a fantastic Bure Cup Final comeback at East Tuddenham to retain the Bure Cup. After suffering a painful 16-8 home defeat in the first leg Halvergate travelled to East Tuddenham for the second leg with the odds stacked against them and a mountain to climb. The first session saw Halvergate begin to cut the deficit as Mike Tate, Steve Hall & Ryan Fox beat Jean Woods, Melvin Woods & Nigel Hurn 8-3 while Ray Lamb, Keith Baker & Keith Cooke drew 3-3 with Sheila Hook, Mike Smail & Robert Howlett in a low scoring game. A superb second session for the visitors saw Jackie Smith, Steven Lamb & Jason Woods storm to a 16-1 win against Gillian Amos, Gerald Potter & Robin Amos and Holly Lamb, Sue Fox & David Lamb beating Jan Smail, John Turner & Chris Willies by 9-2. This reduced Tuddenham’s aggregate points lead to just 17-15 with four sessions remaining. The third session was shared with Nigel Hurn’s East Tuddenham triple beating Keith Cooke’s triple 6-3 while Ryan Fox’s Halvergate triple beat Robert Howlett’s triple 10-4. The fourth session saw East Tuddenham’s hopes of victory get a major boost as Robin Amos beat David Lamb 7-3 and Chris Willies beat Jason Woods 7-4 to increase the home sides aggregate lead to 23-17 with just two sessions remaining. East Tuddenham now needed just one win to clinch the cup but Halvergate kept the match alive with two superb results in the fifth session. Jason Woods delivered a 9-2 win against Robert Howlett and Keith Cooke’s triple won their game against Robin Amos by 6-3 to reduce Tuddenham’s aggregate lead to 23-21. This still left Halvergate needing two wins to pull off an incredible comeback and they delivered in style. Holly Lamb, Sue Fox & David Lamb stunned the home side with a 15-2 win against Jean Woods, Melvin Woods & Nigel Hurn while Mike Tate, Steve Hall & Ryan Fox completed the job with an 11-4 win against Jan Smail, John Turner & Chris Willies to earn Halvergate a 25-23 aggregate points win. This result will no doubt go down as one of David Lamb’s Halvergate team’s greatest triumphs.
