Norwich Cup action tonight sees City of Norwich League side Taverham entertain Breckland League giants Wymondham with a 7.30pm start scheduled at their Sandy Lane venue. On paper the home side look to be up against it with Wymondham certain to field a very strong team as they look to reach the semi-final stage. Much credit is due to Taverham for their bravery in being the only City League side to accept the invitation to enter the revamped competition and enter the fray. In some ways the draw was kind to Taverham giving them a bye in the first round and a home tie in the second round. Unfortunately, that draw paired them with Norwich Cup favourites Wymondham who are looking to retain the trophy. Taverham will not be used to facing bowlers of the calibre of AJ Brown, Jack Pye, Chris Mann, Debbie Sparham, Trevor Brown & Jon Sparham but are sure to learn from the experience. Bure League champions Halvergate, with the likes of David Lamb, Jason Woods, Keith Cooke & Ryan Fox in their line-up, are the other big fish in the Norwich Cup and have a tricky away trip to Thetford to come. Harling Yellow entertain Hevingham in early January as a reward for beating Hingham 40-19 in the last round. Connaught face a long trip to Wortwell for their quarter-final tie after their tremendous battle at Harling Blue ended in a last bowl victory on an extra end.
