The NCSMBA Summer League will consist of just nine teams again this season playing in two divisions, five in Div One and four in Div Two. This seems to reflect the drop in appetite for Summer League bowls which has become evident in recent seasons. Many will remember the halcyon days of the Summer League when four divisions, consisting of eight or nine teams in each, fought out promotion and relegation battles but those days are sadly gone and the league is just a pale shadow of it’s former self. Looking at the make-up of Div One there seems little doubt that the same three teams, defending champions Bob Carter, Wymondham & Halvergate will again be the ones in contention for the title. Newly promoted First Bus and Thorpe Marriott will give their all but will find it tough to compete with these teams. Div Two will consist of the two teams relegated from Div One last summer, Forncett and Watton, along with Diss and Hingham. In the Summer Cup draw Hingham face Bob Carter in the preliminary round with the winner facing Watton in the quarter-finals. The big clash in the quarter-finals is between Halvergate and cup holders Wymondham while Thorpe Marriott play Diss and Forncett play First Bus.
