It was yet another hugely successful weekend for Norfolk in the Inter-County Championships as both teams put their opposition to the sword. Norfolk Premier travelled to Daventry to take on a strong Northants Premier team and for the third year in a row inflicted a painful defeat on their rivals. Bob Carter’s Gary Best was in irrepressible form in the singles winning his games by 14-13 & 16-11 while Wymondham’s Chris Mann added a 16-11 win. Norfolk’s young pairing of Morgan Warnes & Jack Pye continued to forge their new partnership winning both their games as did Kerry Greenacre, Debbie Sparham & Keith Cooke in the triples. Norfolk’s fours have struggled at times this season but reached new heights taking nine points out of ten. Lewis Cranston, Rob Cranston, Jamie Forster & David Lamb produced wins of 13-5 & 13-8 and Laura Hawksworth, Phil Watson, Bob Oatway & Simon Willies won one and drew one. Norfolk “A” faced Cambridgeshire at March IBC looking for a good win to remain in charge of their group but surpassed even their own expectations as they romped to a massive 34-6 victory that left their opponents shell-shocked. Robbie Lamb had a great day in the singles winning by 19-14 & 15-12 while captain Mike Boswell added a 25-6 win. In the pairs Billie Barker & Graham Mobbs won by 18-8 & 12-11. Maximum points were gained in the pairs with Joan Costello, Graham Twwed & John Jarvis winning twice as did Donna Lamb, Ray Lamb & Steven Lamb. Not to be outdone the Norfolk pairs also achieved maximum points with Jean Woods, Trish Taylor, Karl Newby & Terry Newby winning 18-9 & 17-8 while Jenny Walker, Elaine Oatway, Melvin Barker & Peter Walker won by 13-8 & 12-6. The results left both Norfolk teams well in control of their respective groups in the I.C.C.
