A nail biting end to the season long battle for the NCSMBA Summer League Championship title saw Bob Carter finally clinch it against defending champions Wymondham after a perfect last bowl by England star Gary Best. The last match of the season saw Wymondham visit Bob Carter with the visitors starting the match top of the table with 75 points and Carter just one point behind on 74. Therefore a 4-4 draw would be enough for Wymondham to retain the title. Chris Mann’s triple earned two points in the first half and looked set to clinch the title for Wymondham in their last game as they went into the final end two shots up. When Carter’s Gary Best stepped up to play his final wood Carter held just one of the two shots they needed but the former Kent bowler held his nerve to play a perfect bowl moving the jack an inch to begin the celebrations for the Drayton based side. The match was a credit to the sport of short mat bowls in Norfolk and provided a great climax to the season, both teams deserve much credit for their performances throughout. In Division Two Forncett had already clinched the title but Watton were left with the task of needing a maximum 8-0 home win against Windows if they were to pip Horsford Heroes for the other promotion spot. And that is exactly what they did as they secured promotion into the top flight with a perfect 8-0 win on points, 67-28 on shots.
